Volunteer Guidelines
Thank you for choosing to be a part of the ministry of Adult and Teen Challenge. It is our wish that you will find you time here rewarding and personally satisfying.
Great Lakes Adult and Teen Challenge is a decidedly evangelical Christian ministry. Due to the Christian nature of our program, we do require that you be an active church member and a believer in Jesus Christ.
We have prepared the following guidelines for you. They are for your benefit in assisting us to better minister to the young men and women who come to our program seeking a new way of life. We welcome any questions you may have concerning any of these guidelines, and ask that you adhere faithfully to each one.
As a Bible based, Christ-centered program, we believe the answer to the problems our students face are found through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Therefore, it is our desire that as you work around them that you encourage them to look to Christ for strength and the answers to their problems.
We are depending on you. Please make every effort to follow the schedule and be on time as agreed upon between you and you department head. Please notify your department head at least twenty-four hours in advance if you are unable to report for duty as scheduled.
As a volunteer you are subject to the same confidentiality regulations as are the staff. State and Federal regulations prohibit the disclosure of the presence and status of students enrolled in our program.
You may engage in casual conversation with the students but are prohibited from engaging in counseling with them. Your role as pace setter and godly example is valuable. The ATC program has many components that take place during week such as education, mentoring, prayer, and counseling. SuperThrift is a time to put biblical principles pertaining to work into action.
You are not allowed to do personal favors for current or former students such as loan money, make phone calls, send letters, or help assist them in departing from the program. If any student approaches you and asks for your assistance in any of these, you are required to report this to your department head immediately.
Smoking, drinking alcohol, and/or using or bringing any illicit drugs on Adult and Teen Challenge property is strictly forbidden.
We thank God for you! We appreciate your willingness to come and be a part of the Adult and Teen Challenge ministry. We hope that, besides working here, you will promote Adult and Teen Challenge in your church, community, and among your friends. Let your Pastor know that he may feel free to call on us if he knows someone who may be in need of our program, or he would like us to come and do a program in your church. As a satisfied volunteer, you are the most effective way we have of recruiting others to volunteer.
